Education Board, Chittagong Bangladesh

Chittagong Education Board
Established: 1995
Type: Education Board

JSC Examination Under Chittagong Education Board

History

The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Chittagong started its operation in 1995 as a result of a strong movement in 1994 for it. It is an autonomous and self-regulating organization in the field of educational administration and management in Bangladesh. Since its inception, the BISE, Chittagong has been performing its activities although it faced so many difficulties. The major problem is lack of its own administrative complex, which accommodates all modern amenities. Still it runs in private rented house, which is not viable economically and socially. So, considering the growing demand for both qualitative and quantitative education in country, the BISE, Chittagong has been trying to develop it as a centre of excellence in the field of educational administration. To achieve this goal it was an unavoidable necessity to have its own premise and own administrative building. The onward March of the board made it possible for it. It is a matter of hope that BISE, Chittagong bought a land measuring 3.48 acres (14,100 m2) from Bangladesh Railway with two (2) Crore Taka provided from its own fund. At present the construction works of BISE, Chittagong Administration Complex and Residential Buildings for the officers and staff of the board are going on rapidly.

History

Established in 1946,first class started on 10th July, so 10th July celebrated as |"DMC DAY|". It took about 10 years for the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital to start operations because of bureaucratic entanglements. The Dhaka Medical College and its affiliate, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, were accommodated in a building constructed in 1904 as the Secretariat Building for the province of East Bengal and Assam. The building was transferred to the University of Dhaka in 1921. One part of it was converted into the university's medical centre, one part into a student dormitory, while the residual part was allotted for use as the academic wing of the Faculty of Arts.

History
Dhaka Survey School was established in 1876 as a survey  school  for training surveyors. at Nalgola, in Old Dhaka to train surveyors for the then Government  of Bengal  of British India. Later, generous grants from Nawab Ahsanullah, a renowned Muslim patron of Education and member of the Nawab family of Dhaka enabled it to expand as a full fledged engineering  school. Ahsanullah School of Engineering offered three-year diploma courses in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. In recognition of the generous financial contribution from the then Nawab of Dhaka, it was named after his father Khwaja Ahsanullah. It was moved to its present premises in 1912.

After the partition of India in 1947, it was upgraded to Ahsanullah Engineering College, as a Faculty of Engineering under the University of Dhaka, offering four-year bachelor's courses in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering.

In 1962, it was renamed as East Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology (EPUET). A partnership with the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (renamed Texas A&M University in 1963) was forged, and professors from A&M came to teach and to formulate the curriculum. During this period, EPUET offered courses in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Chemical engineering, and Architecture.

After the liberation war of 1971, Bangladesh became independent, and EPUET was renamed to Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

Civil Department Of BUET

Faculties and Department
BUET is the leading technical university in Bangladesh with strong and diverse research and teaching programs in the departments under five faculties. Undergraduate programs in the Faculties of Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering extend over four years and lead to B.Sc. University of Dhaka (DU) is a public research university in the Bangladeshi  capital Dhaka. Established in 1921, University of Dhaka is the first university of the Bangladeshi nation. Given the political history of Bangladesh, it is believed that had the University of Dhaka not been established in 1921, there would not have been today's independent and sovereign Bangladesh. With more than 32,000 students and 1600 teachers,it is the largest university in the country, and popularly known as "the Oxford of the East". Almost ninety percent members of the country's public service come from the University of Dhaka, while the university enjoys the highest allocation of the government's education fund.

The University of Dhaka was created to provide an alternative to University of Calcutta for the people of East Bengal as most of the colleges were located along Calcutta. The formation of University of Dhaka is largely credited to Nawab Bahadur Syed Nawab Ali Chowdhury, himself a student of the hallowed St. Xavier's College, Calcutta  affiliated to University of Calcutta. Thus in 1921 under the aegis of Nawab Bahadur Syed Nawab Ali Chowdhury, The University of Dhaka opened its doors on July 1, 1921 under three faculties : Arts, Law and Science.

History
The University of Dhaka was established in 1921 under the Dacca University Act 1920 of the Indian Legislative Council, it is modelled after British universities. Academic activities started on July 1, 1921 with 3 faculties, 12 teaching departments, 60 teachers, 847 students and 3 residential halls.

It is believed that a combination of political, social and economic compulsions persuaded the government of India to establish a University at Dhaka 'as a splendid imperial compensation' to Muslims for the annulment of the partition of Bengal. The first vice-chancellor of the university, Dr., later Sir, Philip Joseph Hartog, a former academic registrar of the University of London for 17 years and a member of the University of Calcutta Commission, described this phenomenon as the 'political origin' of the institution.
